The day was filled with disappointments, surprises and better events than I expected. Neighbor Moon came by at 7:30 AM to visit and that had me change my plans from an 8:30 AM AA meeting to a 10:30 AM AA meeting. I left one AA meeting and went to another AA club to celebrate the clubs 33rd anniversary. I expected to eat a BBQ dinner at the anniversary celebration but they were not going to eat for a couple of hours so I did not hang around. I headed for downtown Austin where I would spend the rest of the day. My first stop was several blocks east of downtown at a pumpkin carving contest at the Carver Museum. Next, three events all in very close proximity so I parked in southeast Austin and took in all three pretty quick. The Lance Armstrong Livestrong event was a lot more than I expected but the Gem and Mineral show at the same location was a bust for me, didn't care for it at all. An art exhibit at the Mexican American Culture Center was also a bust because the gallery that was suppose to be open was closed so I could not get in to see the art exhibit. After getting locked out of the art gallery I went to UT for a walking tour of the campus Landmark sculptures but no one showed up. I was beginning to think art was going to be a disaster for me today but I found some unexpected music in the Bates Recital Hall which help me get my mind of the disappointments. I walked over to DKR Memorial stadium and checked out the set up for the Texas football game that was going to be shown inside the stadium and while there watched the last half of the Oklahoma football game. I saved the best event for last. I walked form 24th street to 4th street and attended Dia De Los Muertos at the Mexic-Arte Museum. The Day of the Dead celebration was the highlight of my day and I stayed at the Mexic-Arte Museum a long time. As I walked back and fourth across Austin I ran in to two protest marches and a sweet sixteen celebration at the Capital. Today was sure a full day for me!
