There are lucky days then there are unbelievable lucky days, today was the latter for me. By 8 AM I was at the start of the 5K Shake a Leg run in Lakeway. Everything was going great! I shot some photos and video of the race and ate a free breakfast courtesy of Lakeway. After the event as I approached my auto I realized I did not have my camera in my pocket. It had fallen out somewhere on the grounds of the event. I rushed back to my last location and ask some people in the area if a camera had been found, it had and was turned over to the event coordinator. After about fifteen minutes I located the lady who was in charge of the Shake a Leg 5K and sure enough she had my camera. As I walked back to my auto I thought how lucky I was and thankful for the nice Lakeway person who turned my camera in. When I reached in my pocket for my auto keys they were gone also. I again rushed back to where my camera had been found but this time no one had turned in a set of keys. My auto was locked and when I looked through the glass I did not see the keys anywhere. I thought I might be able to gain entrance through the sliding back glass but I could not get it opened no matter how hard I tried. Even if I had gotten in, I did not have a spare set of keys. I flagged down a Lakeway motorcycle policeman and he dispatched a locksmith. It was going to take the locksmith 45 minutes to arrive but he was going to unlock and start my car. I was going to have to go to the dealership and get a new key make. Not only was that going to cost several hundred dollars but I did not even know if the dealership would be open late on a Saturday. As I waited the 45 minutes I seemed to walk around the truck every five minutes, looking in it's windows. I guess I thought the keys were going to magically appear. 45 minutes passed with no locksmith in sight so I thought I would try opening the rear sliding glass once again. This time I used a small plastic ground irrigation control cover that I found close to where I had parked and it did the trick. When I was able to reach inside my auto, I lifted up a flannel shirt on the seat and low and behold there were my keys. About that time the locksmith pulled up. I was so happy at finding my keys I tipped the locksmith $40 for his trip. I went on into downtown Austin, attending the Farmers Market, a concert at the University of Texas and the Green Festival at the Austin City Hall. My last stop before heading home was a Health Care Rally at the Texas Capital. At the rally I ate my second free meal of the day. The AFL-CIO fed everyone hot dogs and chips as the crowd listened to State Reps champion the public option of the proposed health care bill. Not only had I had a very full day but it was one of the luckiest days I had in a long time.
